Commended - Sommelier Wine Awards 2014 (2013 vintage) The 'Collectables' wines were created to pay homage to the iconic walnut tree which stands among the vines at Walnut Block and to proudly bring something of New Zealand's rich history to wine lovers. The label depicts an adaption of the 1898 Kiwi stamp which was released over 100 years ago coinciding with the planting of this iconic tree.
A lively Sauvignon Blanc with powerful aromas of fresh melon, citrus and passionfruit.
The palate is weighty and concentrated with exotic fruits and citrus flavours. Well integrated natural acidity leaves a crisp and pure finish.
Walnut Block Wines
Walnut Block is the vision of two brothers – Clyde and Nigel Sowman. The Sowman family first planted the vineyard in 1996 in Marlborough’s premium Rapaura sub region. Combining their experience in viticulture and the wine industry with their passion and appreciation for fine wine, they have created their own unique range of superbly crafted Marlborough wines. Since introducing them last year, they have been a run-away success with Vintage Roots customers and we look forward to the new Pinot Noirs arriving. Why 'walnut'? Well because Marlborough’s oldest walnut tree, stands in the middle of the Sauvignon Blanc vines. Over 100 years old, the tree provides a special historical focal point for the vineyard and of course adds biodiversity too.
