Description

A rare Burgundy white made entirely from Aligoté in the Côte Chalonnaise.

The Aligoté grape is enjoying a comeback in Burgundy and beyond, as many winemakers are rediscovering its potential. Green gold in colour, the nose of this fine Burgundy white is of delicate dried fruits and flowers, followed by a more generous palate with more exotic fruits and a light brioche edge from the ageing in oak barrels. Dry and lively, this makes for a perfect aperitif wine, and is also very good mixed with blackcurrant liqueur or cassis to make a ‘Kir’. A great match also for fish dishes.

Taste

Citrus fruits and vibrant acidity

Aroma

Candied lemons and nutty brioche

Martine and Pierre met on the benches of the University of Rennes. They studied ecology and became aware of looming environmental issues and the impact human practices were having on nature and biodiversity. Love flourished, and when the opportunity to settle down in life presented itself in Burgundy, in an agricultural environment, a wine adventure came as an obvious choice. In 1978, they combined their family names to create the D’Heilly-Huberdeau estate. Situated in the Côte Chalonnaise, which extends over 35 kilometers between the Mâconnais in the South and the Côte de Beaune in the North, the soils here are predominantly clay and limestone. Organic since 1983 and producing their first Cremant de Bourgogne wine in 1986 (the year Vintage Roots was born) we are thrilled to be listing them again after a gap of over 20 years! They are now joined by their son Lucas and long may they continue producing delicious organic Burgundy wines.
