£28.00
Taste
Black cherry and vanilla, Concentrated and elegant
Aroma
Sweet spices and toasted oak
Description
Gran Selezione is the highest quality level in the Chianti Classico region and this superb 2018 sets a new course for this top Sangiovese wine. “Canto Dieci” means “ten chants” in Italian, and is a designation used for the best selected grapes in Chianti Classico, resulting in wines with profound and deep character. 30 months ageing in large oak casks has allowed this fine wine to develop rich layers of flavour whilst maintaining the vibrant freshness of the fruit. On the nose, it reveals intense aromas of ripe black cherries, wild berries and plum, harmoniously interwoven with notes of violet, sweet spices and subtle toasted oak nuances. On the palate, the Gran Selezione is full-bodied and structured, showcasing silky tannins balanced by lively acidity. Flavours of dark fruit mingle with hints of liquorice, leather and earthy minerality, culminating in a long, persistent finish that reflects the unique terroir of southern Tuscany.
- Recommended by Decanter in a judging of over 300 Chianti Classicos, “Beautifully concentrated brambly fruit and liquorice with layers of smokey complexity and a light dusting of nicely melded oak.” (2016 vintage)
