Throughout history, the valley of Esclans was very famous for its grapes which furnished the rich Roman tables. The DOMAINE DU JAS D’ESCLANS is mentioned in the records as early as the XIII century. It is also reproduced on the Cassini’s map in 1740.
The activities of the DOMAINE evolved throughout the centuries. First sheep fields of summer pastures from which its name of JAS; then significant sericulture whose alleys of mulberry trees being used to feeds the silkworms still remain the witnesses; and the viticulture which remains the only activity continuing nowadays.
The vineyard, which has an average age of more than thirty years, is planted on a red clay soil, sandstone and schist of the Permian era, which gives intensity, elegance and character to the wine.
The Domaine has always prioritised traditional growing methods, and has been certified organic since 1990.
The careful work in the vineyard, hand-harvesting and minimal intervention in the cellar gives wines of great quality in conformity with the standard of the “Cru Classé”.
