Mendoza, Argentina
Jean Bousquet - 2013

Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Syrah / Shiraz
Size: 75cl
Alcohol: 15.5%

Hedonistic new wine from the great Domaine Bousquet made from 50% Malbec, 45% Syrah and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Extremely rich and full-bodied, yet wonderfully smooth.

Tupungato, the premium sub-region of Mendoza where Domaine Bousquet is located, has phenomenal climatic conditions. One of the key factors for a vineyard in Argentina is the altitude, and the Bousquet vines sit at 1,200 metres above sea level. This means the vines get the full benefit of the South American sun during the day, but the temperatures drop quickly at night, which maintains the acidity in the grapes, increases the aromatics, and prevents the fruit...

Domaine Bousquet

Frenchman Jean Bousquet travelled thousands of miles to find his 'optimum' vineyard location. In Mendoza, Argentina he found a site with, in his words 'idyllic wine-growing precipitation and temperatures, mild during the day and cool at night… situated at a good altitude (1,200 metres above sea level), with fresh air, few funguses, and very permeable sandy and rocky soils… these great attributes give the grapes the possibility to attain an optimum maturation without the risk of rotting and without having to use fungicides'. These perfect conditions combined with knowledge passed down through three winemaking generations makes for wines of exceptional quality.

This is seriously rich and full-bodied, and very very good. Almost better after a meal, like a port. (Posted on 24/12/2015)

As smooth as it gets Review by YetAnotherDave

My preference for wine goes something like this:

1) Organic Red
2) South American
3) Malbec grape

I buy the above combination more often than not; preferring something hard hitting and full bodied to really get the senses going and it's perfect for an evening drink (I don't tend to pair wine with food - preferring a relaxing drink on its own). I'm not a sensory connoisseur, but if you also like these sort of wines then read on.....

I was (very kindly) gifted this Jean Bousquet blend, and I've now discovered that the blend makes a tough Malbec incredibly smooth and rounds the edges perfectly. I tasted this completely blind because my wife decided to open it without telling me, and I can guarantee that this stands head and shoulders above what I normally buy.

My new favourite and well worth the extra for a special occasion - such as days ending in "Y".

I bought this after seeing it rated as 'Best in Show' in the Decanter Awards and it is one of the best wines I've ever had. Very full-bodied and rich. (Posted on 12/03/2015)
