Organic Chardonnay Wines
Chardonnay is still the most popular white grape variety. It reaches its apogee in the famous villages around Montrachet in Burgundy, but top quality Chardonnay is made in many countries (from Britain to New Zealand), as it is one of the most adaptable varieties. It’s also used in Champagne and other sparkling wines.
The flavours of most Chardonnay wines are derived from the influences of the land or the casks in which it is stored. The grape’s flavours are actually fairly neutral, making it one of the most versatile wines.
The Old World Chardonnays of France are lean with a crisp mineral flavour, while the New World Chardonnays tend to have tropical flavours. If the wine is aged in oak it will usually have a notes of vanilla which can make the wine appear sweeter. Cooler climates produce Chardonnay wine with high acidity, medium to light body, and flavours of pear, plum, and green apple. Warmer climates produce Chardonnay wine with citrus, melon, and peach flavours.
