The reds from Languedoc are produced using Mourvedre, Grenache, Carignan, Merlot and Syrah grapes, as well as many others while the whites are usually made from Grenache Blanc, and Picpoul, Chardonnay, Viognier , Marsanne, Clairette and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. For sparkling wines, you’ll love the Cremant de Limoux–a wine believed to be older than true Champagne, and with a flavour to match at a fraction of the price. The Fortified Wines of Languedoc (made from Grenache grapes) are sweet and rich, and can last up to 100 years!

Languedoc wine is table wine in the best sense of the term. Try Picpoul de Pinet with oysters, or a Minervois with steak to get a sense of the variety on offer. The deep reds of the region are fruit-driven and full-bodied. Wines produced in the region tend to be blended from a number of grapes, giving complex flavours and aromas. The Languedoc is certainly a great region to be organic, as it is warm and relatively dry too.
