André Stentz Alsace Gewurztraminer

This is a truly outstanding and beautifully expressive organic Gewurztraminer from the heart of Alsace – one that will offer a real treat to those prepared to veer off the well-beaten Chardonnay and Sauvignon tracks. There’s a distinct lychee, orange rind and floral character to the palate that’s topped off with a teasing flicker of spice. There’s texture, richness and just enough freshness to carry it all through on a long, graceful finish. A flavourful wine on its own, yet it can also handle bold flavours, from spicy Asian dishes to a lavish cheese board or, for those who like it, it’s also a great pairing for smoked haddock.

The Stentz family have been winemakers in Wettolsheim (6 kilometres from Colmar), since 1674! With vineyards planted on the well-exposed slopes of the Vosges mountains, the vines benefit from a particularly favourable microclimate in the shadow of their peaks. André Stentz also has prized vineyard land in the Grand Cru area of Hengst (for Pinot Noir). Organic since 1984, an early convert in this region, André is one of the cheeriest and most mild mannered winegrowers you’ll ever meet.
