Longridge Wine Estate
Situated at the foot of the Helderberg mountains, south of the famous fine wine region of Stellenbosch, Longridge’s philosophy is to produce environmentally sustainable wines of superior quality. Biodynamic farming methods are utilized to the fullest, minimizing the impact they have on the environment. As Jasper Raats Cellar Master says “Our goal is to produce world-class wines in a natural way, applying the age-old traditions of natural winemaking and respecting our land, by not using any herbicides, pesticides or chemical sprays.”Free-roaming ducks that waddle through the vineyard help control insects and other pests that may harm the vines.
This naturally fermented Chenin is just off dry, it has notes of fresh straw, honey, pineapple and stone white fruit, with understated oak and a hint of almond paste.
Distinct notes of minerality, combined beautifully with citrus and lime aromas on the nose are complemented by shortbread and dessert peaches on the palate, ending in a refreshing, lingering and perfectly balanced finish.
Almost Burgundian in style. Elegant, well rounded wine with soft juicy tannins. The nose offers sweet spices, cassis and ripe berries, sugared orange peel, rooibos and a smoky charcuterie character, which follows through onto the palate, with a savoury lingering aftertaste.
93/100 points Decanter magazine and 92/100 points by Tim Atkin MW 2020 Report. On the nose the wine shows cinnamon, black cherries, elegant spice and charcuterie.
