Be your own judge of theseGood, Better, Best New World Pinot Noirs, starting with Emiliana’s top-reviewed Chilean Adobe Reserva, an excellent red that’s light in colour with smooth cherry fruit, sweet vanilla and supple tannins to balance. Next head to Domaine Bousquet in Argentina for another top-class example, their Reserve Pinot Noir. With its delicious notes of red cherry, red plum and subtle smoke, this oak-aged beauty has captured favourable attention from notable critics far and wide. Lastly, finish things off with the outstanding Nutcracker Pinot Noir from New Zealand. A fine Marlborough example, the excellent 2019 vintage is deep, plush and sensuous, offering a panoply of dark fruits and classy oak spice. Three different ‘levels’ of Pinot from three New World countries, but all fantastic.

Reviews and expert opinions for these wines

Adobe Pinot Noir Reserva

  • “Become a firm favourite as this red is soft and smooth…”
  • “Beautifully smooth and light red. Subtle Chilean wine with no rough edges for those who don’t like overpowering tannins and spicy flavours”.

Domaine Bousquet Reserve Pinot Noir

  • Brian Elliott, wine writer & judge: “Surprisingly dark but with the clarity organic wines so often present, it exhibits fragrant raspberry and plum flavours embellished by lively acidity and well measured tannin. Lovers of pinot noir with a savoury foundation will relish this wine and the nutty, cola and clove elements it also contains.” (2021 vintage)
  • 90 Points – Tim Atkin MW and 92 Points – James Suckling (2017 vintage)

Walnut Block Nutcracker Pinot Noir

  • 5 Stars – WineState Magazine – “Certified organic, this delicious red was hand-picked, matured for 20 months in oak barriques (20% new), and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Full-coloured, it is full-bodied and generous, with deep, ripe, plum and spice flavours, showing excellent complexity, and supple tannins. Savoury and harmonious, it’s a drink now or cellaring proposition.” Michael Cooper MW, (2019 vintage)
  • “Really good Pinot Noir with loads of fruit and body but still silky smooth like a Pinot should be.”
  • “Elegant single vineyard Pinot from Marlborough NZ, all the quality of the vineyard shows in this wonderful, top of the range wine!”
  • “This is the best wine I’ve ever tried. Not cheap, but definitely worth it. 6 stars!”
