Biodynamic wine is made by using specially activated farm derived composts and sprays to which minerals and plant extracts are added. Furthermore, vineyard and winemaking practices may be timed according to the moon and planets. There are very strict standards for a bottle to be labelled as biodynamic wine. The Biodynamic Federation Demeter International is the certifying body that ensures that all biodynamic wine is produced biodynamically and follows the principles of anthroposophy—or the understanding of the spiritual, ecological, and energetic aspects of the earth.

Bioydnamics goes further than organics, is more complex and takes much longer for the advantageous results to come through in the wine. Consequently, using a full biodynamic system is not undertaken lightly, and requires considerable time, effort and understanding. Biodynamics may sound whacky, but it’s about respect for the environment working with nature’s own rhythms to make wines that taste authentic and delicious.
