Explosive red cherry and subtle herb

From Emilia Romagna in northern Italy, this vibrant style of sparkling red is enjoying a well-deserved renaissance, driven by a new wave of quality-focused winemakers. After numerous tastings, this Venturini Baldini example stood out as our clear favourite. It’s a joyful, medium-bodied red with fragrant notes of ripe berries and wild herbs, a dry, refreshing palate and plenty of juicy summer-fruit charm. Lightly chilled, it’s a fantastic drink for warmer days, and its lively tannins make it a brilliant food partner – try it with antipasti, picnics, BBQs or your favourite Italian dishes.
Founded back in 1976 in the hills between Parma and Reggio Emilia, at around 350 metres above sea level, here the 30 hectares of vines at Venturini Baldini are interspersed between woods and pastures on the 130-hectare estate, which offers added biodiversity and protection. This was one of the very first estates in the region to obtain organic certification. Grapes are hand-harvested and include Sorbara, Graparossa and Salamino varieties for the Lambruscos, which are made using the Charmat method.
