Earthy liquorice, Red and black berries and tobacco
Description
Aged for two months in 500 litre French oak barrels, the Generacion wines come from the best hand-picked parcels of vines. Bodegas Tempore is famous for its Grenache and the 73 is their best expression of this variety coming from 70 year vines. Soft tannins due to its thin skin but with intense fruit concentration and lifted but balanced alcohol. Raspberry and strawberry aromas with a subtle white pepper spice note.
- Wine of the Week, Joanna Simon, ‘I can’t help wondering if I have already found one of my favourite red wines of 2025. […] Generación 73 Garnacha 2020 takes you on a journey of fragrant raspberry, plum and cherry fruit, cool mountain streams and wet stones and a seasoning of pepper and herbs. Tannins and acidity shape it, but they’re so smooth and glossy you barely feel them. It’s a wine that fills the mouth with a lightness of touch.’ (2020 vintage)
- Consecutive Gold Winner, Grenaches du Monde (2020, 2022 vintages etc)
- Gold Medal, International Organic Wine Awards 2016 (2015 vintage)

About the estate

Quite possibly the my find of the year
A spectacular discovery for me this year is Generacion 73, a 100% Garnacha organic Spanish wine. There was a time when Grenache was the dominant grape in Spain and this is an example of how the country is still producing amazing wines with this variety. The first thing that hits you is the deep garnet colour and strong legs hinting at its 14% alcohol content. It goes on with a show-stopper performance delivering forward-flavours of candied red fruit, spices, and black pepper. It drinks well and in my opinion is just as well suited as an aperitif as it would accompany a nice steak. There’s good acid so I suspect that although I would class this as an easy-drinking wine, it is rich enough to benefit from a few years in the bottle.
