A cross between Blaufrankish and St Laurent, Zweigelt is Austria’s most planted red varietal, known for its bright and tart fruity flavours. Intense and inky in colour, the nose is all blueberry and mulberry, followed by some deep blackberry flavours, all edged with soft spice. An ideal picnic red and perfect for grilled or BBQd chicken.
Quality Austrian estate sited in Jetzelsdorf, near Haugsdorf on 20 hectares. Organic since 2015, Christoph Bauer works with his wife Heidi to produce excellent fruit-driven wines, whose character is helped on by the relatively high lime content of the local soils.
A suprising delicious wine. Well worth a try!
