Description

Sparkling Verdicchio with a soft nose and a clean fresh smell of strawberry fields. 'Mouth-watering... Delicious' JancisRobinson.com

A perfect palate cleanser between courses of a meal or as a refreshing tipple when you need a pick me up. The mouth is expressive and crisp with some yeasty notes but over all a zesty and fresh taste. Zero dosage (no added sugar)

  • Best Prosecco Alternatives, Evening Standard, ‘Keeping things Italian, this organic Spumante – the blanket term for fully sparkling as opposed to the lighter Frizzante styles (Prosecco tends to fall into the former) –  is made from 100 per cent Verdicchio grapes from the Marche region. With zero dosage – no added sugar – after the second fermentation, the flavours stand up on their own: enlivening notes of fresh citrus, baked bread and a mouthwateringly crisp, bone-dry finish.’ Nuria Stylianou, August 2017
  • 17/20 – JancisRobinson.com100% Verdicchio. Inviting leesy lemon nose. Assertive CO2 on the attack, then piercing fresh lemon fruit. Mouth-watering. Fine lasting prickle. Delicious.’ Walter Speller, August 2016

Pievalta lies in the heart of Castelli di Jesi in the Marche region of eastern Italy – a region famous for its quality Verdicchio wines. The estate takes its name (‘Pievalta’) from the small parish church located at the entrance of the property. It was established in 2002 and purchased by the Barone Pizzini estate (in Franciacorta) to develop Verdicchio wines of great quality. The estate covers a total area of 44 hectares of property, and in 2008, Pievalta was first to be biodynamic certified in the Le Marche region. Only natural preparations are worked with and organic and plant compounds to encourage the formation of fertile humus and energise the growth of the plants. The management of Pievalta’s vineyards and winemaking has been assigned to Alessandro Fenino, an oenologist with a number of successful harvests and seasons at Barone Pizzini under his belt. In 2008, Alessandro was joined by Silvia Loschi, his colleague at Barone Pizzini and now his life companion.

  1. Dry delight

Very dry for a sparkling wine, but that made it enjoyable appetising for me. Good value

  2. Super appetiser

The perfect aperitif to get your mouth watering

  3. Perfect with spicy food!

We had our first bottle of this at a special meal on Saturday, when it went perfectly with a very spicy meal. Two people who would normally have had a robust red wine, said this was an even better choice.
It was refreshing, complex and wonderful – all five of us thoroughly enjoyed it and would happily drink it the next time we have spicy food! Or even on its own, or with other savoury dishes.
A bargain in comparison with other similar wines.
