The Best Wine Gifts for Mother’s Day: Mother’s Day Gift Guide

When is Mother’s Day 2021 in the UK?

Mother’s Day, or Mothering Sunday, as it is correctly known in the UK, is always on the fourth Sunday of Lent, and in 2021, it will be celebrated on Sunday, 14th March.

Why is Mother’s Day Celebrated?

Rooted in traditions commemorating women, Mother’s Day in the UK and Ireland dates back as far as the 16th Century. This traditionally religious holiday, which gave families an opportunity to come together on ‘Mothering Sunday’, became a more commercial venture in the 1950s, which paved the way for how it is traditionally celebrated today.

Mother’s Day Wine Gifts

Wine gifts are fun to choose and great to receive. But what Mum won’t get a kick from a gift that goes that extra mile…

Here then are some Mother’s Day Gift Ideas that will see you roll up your sleeves and make your Mum a gift that’s unique to her.

Organic prosecco cocktails

There is a book (isn’t there always!) entitled, 60 Seriously Sparkling Cocktails that is a packed with great ideas to help you toast your Mum this Mother’s Day in style. I confess to having tried a few and one of my all-time favourites is the Positano Pop. You’ll need a spoonful of sugar, lemon bitters, limoncello (we have a fantastic organic one) and, of course, organic Prosecco.

Apple Brandy

Made with cardamom and peppercorns, these preserved pears it also calls for apple brandy!   Not for the fainthearted Mum, it’s a ravishing treat that will keep in a cool dark place for up to three months!

The Da Mhile Apple Brandy has great flavour and will take this recipe to new heights.

Red Wine Spritzer

A great Mother’s Day gift for wine lovers is to make a delicious red wine spritzer. It’s super easy too! Chill a soft, juicy red and pour it and an equal measure of sparkling water into a pretty glass. It can be nicely decorated with sprigs of mint and a few fresh berries to give it the ‘your special and I love you’ look!

A Moscato Ginger Iced Tea

I confess, I was a bit sceptical about this and so I had to try it. It is bloomin’ delicious and a great Mother’s Day gift idea.

The recipe comes thanks to The Spruce Eats and contains one bottle of very lightly sparkling, Moscato.

Happily, there was a bottle spare of our very own Torelli Moscato in the wine rack and the result, with some candied ginger was heavenly!

Mother’s Day Gin Gifts

Perhaps your Mum is a lady who loves her gin? If so, we have an outstanding range of organic gins.

Organic Gin and Tonic

The Tinkture Rose Gin has to be one of the most beautifully presented gins we have ever seen. It is remarkable in that it changes from having a gorgeous golden-amber hue that turns to pink when you add tonic! Most importantly of all it tastes fantastic. A great gin gift!

If it’s a party-feel you want for your Mum this Mother’s Day, then look no further than the new Glüx Organic Gin Punch. You add two parts boiling water to one part of this flavoursome punch and you are good to go! Warming and celebratory this is a great way to thank your favourite woman.

The winner of World’s Best Gin in 2017 and 2018, the Herno Old Tom Gin has a super-smooth palate that has juniper, pine flower and woody spice. Stunningly delicious, a great gift for the gin and cat-loving Mum!

If the special woman in your life is a gin-lover that can’t quite make up her mind then look no further than the Mini Gin Trio Gift Pack from Dà Mhìle. It contains one each of Oak Aged, Botanical and Seaweed Gin.

Cider Gift Ideas for Mother’s Day

Mulling seems to be something we do at Christmas and then forget about for the remaining eleven or so months of the year!

Mulled cider recipe

What a pity, especially when this Mulled Pear Recipe from The River Cottage is a such a delicious treat and a lovely gift.

Stored in cider syrup (so easy to make), in sterilised jars, this is a gift that Mum can enjoy for up to a year after the day! Yes, they really do keep that long.

Mulled Cider

All you need is 500ml of delicious organic cider, some cloves, a cinnamon stick, sugar, water and a pretty jar! We recommend the Wyld Wood Organic Cider for the job.

An alternative Cider Gift Idea is our Apples & Pears Case, which we think is the ultimate celebration of the best organic ciders and perry you will find. The case of 12 includes two each of, Dunkerton’s Perry, Dunkerton’s Premium Organic Cider, Gasping Goose, Wyld Wood, Sheppy’s and Normandy Cider too.

Mother’s Day cake recipes

Tiramisu Cake

Mary Berry – perhaps the baking Mum of the British nation – has a recipe for Tiramisu Cake. Described as “elegant, generous and very sweet”, is there a better cake for your Mum out there?!

Wine and cake pairing

Now, you could serve it with a nice, freshly made cup of coffee or, if it’s after dark what about the Franciacorta Sparkling Rosé for a stylish and celebratory wine accompaniment.

Red velvet cake

Red Velvet Cake is such a spectacular looking layer cake. Red Velvet cake is a chocolate cake with deep red hue the colour that resulted from the traditional mixing natural cocoa powder with vinegar.

Red Velvet Cake

Wine and cake pairing

Vintage Roots recommends a glass of Maynards Port to indulge in with a slice of red velvet cake. Although red food colouring is a common addition for red velvet cake recipes, beetroot can be a lovely alternative. Cut a slice and pour your much-loved Mum a glass of port o make it even more special! Yum!
