Las Niñas Apalta
The Las Ninas premium red is always a blend of carefully selected grapes from the best plots in Apalta. The assemblage of the 2013 vintage is 53% Mourvèdre, 20% Syrah, 14% Merlot & 12% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 10-12 months in French oak barrels it has tones of dark red fruits with developing aromas of eucalyptus and blackberries. A rich and dense structure with round and elegant tannins.
In 1996, Bernard Dauré persuaded his friends, Jean Pierre Cayard and Claude Florensa to embark on a crazy idea, to join him in creating a wine estate at Apalta in Chile. The girls (Las Ninas) from the three families soon fell in love with the land, in the Colchagua Valley, which is only a two hour drive south of Santiago, the country’s capital. Over three years they planted 160 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Syrah, Mourvèdre and other varieties. A purpose built modern winery has been built to satisfy the increasing demand for their wines around the world. The feminine touch is abundantly evident in their silky smooth fruit driven red wines and Apalta is considered the jewel in the crown of the Colchagua Valley lying at the foothills of the Andes.
