Description

New World power and elegance. An iron fist in a velvet glove.

The Kuyen blend is aged for one year in French oak barrels, then bottled and aged an additional six months in the cellar prior to release. A blend of 57% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Carmenere, 2% Petit Verdot, this second wine to the icon “Antiyal” excels year after year. Cherry and plum aromas are racy, with distinct minerality. Flavours of chocolate, leafy spice, earth and berry fruits finish with a final blast of vital berry flavours before fading into a long and pleasurable finish.

  • The Wine Merchant Top 100 – ‘Chilean boutique producer Antiyal was founded by the biodynamic true believe Alvaro Espinoza and his family in 1996. For this impressive red blend, the fruit is sourced from the family’s vineyards in Helquen, in the foothills of the Maipo Alto, to make a wine that “is totally sellable to the posh BBQ/dinner party crowd. A big hit of ripe New World fruit, silky tannins, everything in balance, classy but with big enough flavours to be a big-hitter – it would be very hard not to like it.”‘ July 2016 (2013 vintage)
  • Bronze Medal – Decanter World Wine Awards 2017 (2013 vintage)
  • 94 Points – Descorchados Chilean Wine Guide (2014 vintage)

Antiyal Alvaro Espinoza was founded in 1996 by Alvaro Espinoza and his wife Marina Ashton, although Alvaro has been tending to vineyards in Chile for over 25 years. He spent many years perfecting his craft at the internationally renowned Carmen winery before following his life-long dream to run his own estate in 1996. The duo bravely struck out on their own, purchasing just one hectare of land in the sleepy Maipo Valley town of Alta Jahuel where they planted Cabernet Sauvignon. After two years and much hard work, Alvaro knew his organic/biodynamic wines were ready to bottle and they released the first vintage of Antiyal, a Mapuche word that means “sons of the sun”, in 1998. Today their flagship wine Antiyal is arguably the benchmark for all Chilean reds and is critically acclaimed by critics and consumers alike around the world.
