Domaine Michel Magnien - 2012/13
From the French wine region of Burgundy comes this amazing premier cru, made from Pinot Noir grapes grown in the northern sub-region of Les Goulots. The old clay and limestone soil produces a grape with rich flavour and colour, leading to a well above-par wine. With this Pinot Noir, you have the cool, highly fresh aromas of blackberry and redcurrants, along with hints of wet stone and flowers. The wine has a mineral character that gives way into complex, detailed flavours, with a soft, suave mouthfeel and delightful after-flavours of herbs. The wine is slight in the middle, but is highly drinkable. It’s a wine to take your time with, as every sip will reveal the more complex flavours that make it a premier cru. ‘Very sweet ripe cherry fruit on the nose. Slight in the middle but well crafted for harmony, freshness and drinkability. Persistent.’ 16.5 Points, Julia Harding MW for JancisRobinson.com (2011 vintage)
