Barone Pizzini - 2009
Named after an Italian painter and architect of the late-Renaissance period this prestige Riserva of vintage Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes is aged for a whopping 60 months on its lees. The base wine spends 6 months in French barriques. Deep yellow in colour with scents of spices, ripe fruit, toast and aromatic herbs. The palate is rich, full, highly structured and dry. Pas Dosé means no added sugar (dosage).
Recommended in The Sunday Times Magazine, ‘Little known here, Franciacorta is popular in Italy and worth seeking out. Barone Pizzini’s wines a fresh, lively style, with notes of crisp fruit and a clean, dry finish.’ Will Lyons, Sunday Times June 2017 (2009 vintage)
92 Points – Tom Cannavan’s Wine-Pages.com, ‘A favourite of mine in previous vintages, this zero dosage organic Franciacorta comes from a single vineyard and spends 60 months on the lees. It’s a 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the base wine fermented and aged six months in barriques. Just delicious richness here despite the absence of sugar, the shimmering lemon acidity is superb, just vivacious and sparky, with supreme brightness, the ripeness of fruit balancing the acidity.‘ July 2016 (2008 vintage)
