Dunkertons - NV
Dunkertons is proud to be the first Herefordshire distillery to produce 100% organic cider, using a traditional press and mill (dating back to the 1930s) and following traditional cider-making methods. But, instead of using apples for the cider, this vintage is brewed with Perry Pears. The result is a cider that is lighter than the typical apple vintages, with delicate fragrances that are brought out when chilled. It’s lightly sweetened, making it easier on the palate than the more heavily sugared apple ciders. It won Gold Medal in the International Cider Challenge in 2017, and is a highly recommended vintage for those looking for a variation on the classic British apple cider.
Dunkertons Perry is fragrant and delicate and should be served lightly chilled.
Recommended in The Telegraph, ‘I’m not usually a fan of cider or perry, but this isn’t just an exception, it’s a very special drink. It smells of spiced pear crumble, but there’s also an earthy floral quality – like walking across a heath on a hot day. Pears are the predominant flavour, their sweetness balanced by a slightly medicinal note – which tastes better than it sounds. Beer aficionados will find something in common with Belgian lambics that have a characteristic earthy yeast flavour. One of the pear varieties grown by Dunkertons is called Merrylegs – it’s worth keeping that in mind when you sip this perry, which is far more drinkable than its 7.5% ABV suggests.’ Sophie Atherton, September 2018
