The Waipara Valley is deemed to be a special place for Riesling with its warm days and cool nights. A speciality of the Chapman family, and fast becoming a cult wine. Medium sweet with around 35 g/L of residual sugar, they are the last grapes to be harvested each year, and include a proportion of botrytised fruit (so-called 'noble rot' which removes water from the grapes, increasing sweetness and flavour). Very complex with generous aromas of honey, white peach and lime followed by a ripe, mouthfilling, lush palate, that has enough acidity to make for a refreshing and crisp finish. Masterful.

***** 5 Stars, 19+/20 Raymond Chan, 'Bright, light straw colour with slight green hues, very pale on edge. The nose is very fresh and finely proportioned with elegantly intense aromas of beautifully refined lime and lemonade fruit along with subtle notes of honeysuckle, white and yellow florals, nuances of herbs and minerals and suggestions of sherbet and minerals. This has great precision and poise. Medium in sweetness and light-medium bodied, bright and intense flavours of lime fruit intermingling with white and yellow stonefruits, along with honeysuckle, musk and minerals form an intense core. The mouthfeel balances richness and a subtle unctuousness wine a very fine phenolic flow and delicate, lacy acidity. The acidity lends poise, tension and precision, and the flavours carry to an elegantly concentrated and sustained finish of lime, honey, florals and minerals, This is a beautifully precise medium-sweet Riesling with rich flavours of lime, homey, florals and musk, along with fine structure and precise acidity. Serve as an aperitif with spicy Asian food and light fruit desserts over the next 5+ years. Late-picked Riesling fruit with 5% botrytis fermented in stainless-steel to 12.0% alc. and 34 g/L RS. Spontaneously purchased by the Chapman family in 1999, Terrace Edge Wines in the Waipara Valley, north of Christchurch on the South Island, is the very essence of a family owned and operated business, one which has grown from trial and error and pure hard graft. Organic certification began through Bio Gro in 2011, with official recognition of their organic status being achieved in March 2014. It was a long process, but one which has enhanced the ecological biodiversity at Terrace Edge, meaning the soil is richer, the vines are healthier and ultimately, the wine tastes better. The Waipara Valley in north Canterbury,is a unique wine growing region, with many different soil types in a small geographical area. Terrace Edge vineyard has been planted specifically to match the variation in soils, in order to grow wine which reflects the location and climate of its home. The vineyard is sensitively and meticulously managed, and not only have vines been planted here but over 200 olive tress and hundreds of native plants around the property and the vines. Beautiful wildflowers have been planted down selected rows to encourage beneficial insects to the property. A 'class act' with three fantastic wines to start with.
