Something special! From an estate purchased by the Amoreau family of the legendary Château Le Puy, which has become one of just a few cult wines in Bordeaux. Situated close to the villages of Saint Emilion and Pomerol in Bordeaux on clay soil and fossil rich limestone, Closerie Saint Roc bottles their exclusive wines under the ‘Vin de France’ label, allowing them to best express their exceptional soil and terroir, the way they want to.
Made from 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, Château Le Puy is, according to Decanter’s July 2020 magazine, one of 10 Bordeaux producers to watch, with wine writer Jane Anson awarding an impressive 94 points to the 2016 vintage of this wine. As with ‘Le Puy’, this estate is organic and biodynamic, uses only natural yeasts and no added sulphur. Ageing is in very old oak barrels, and the wine is both unfined and unfiltered. This Bordeaux red pulses with dark fruit, lashings of cassis and blackberry, and the rich aromas of sweet earth and autumnal berries are mesmerising. A wine of great elegance and purity to complement a special meal.
