Located at the heart of the village of Puisseguin, the estate of Château Beauséjour encompasses 20 hectares on the famous clay-limestone terroir of Saint Emilion. The vineyard is composed of Merlot 70%, Cabernet Franc 25% and Cabernet Sauvignon 5%, with an average age of 40 years. The property is still owned and run by the Dupuy family who originally purchased the estate back in 1934, but had been residents of Puisseguin since the middle ages! Today it is Gérard Dupuy who holds the reins here. Vines are grown in a traditional manner, having been certfied as organicsince 1995, via Ecocert. The soil is free of chemical products as highlighted by the appearance of delicate wild tulips every spring. The vinification takes place without any added products, including no additional sulphur, in compliance with organic farming specifications. Indigenous yeasts rather than cultured yeasts are preferred in order to maintain the authenticity of the wines and their true expression of their terroir. Wines are matured in French oak barrels for between 12-24 months, depending on the vintage.
