Gigondas wines frequently seem better value than many Chateauneuf-du-Papes. Grown at higher altitude with more limestone, the appellation dictates more Grenache at 80% complemented by Syrah and to a lesser degree Mourvedre. This example is powerful with a silky texture and carries soft tannins. It’s surprisingly ready to drink and packed full of persistent dark fruit flavours, with hints of licorice, garrigue, pepper and clove. A superb wine that will not disappoint.
