Sylvain Loichet - 2017
Entry level red Burgundy from a talented and experienced producer. Very attractive and expressive, with cherry and plum aromas and a well balanced ‘berries and cream’ lushness to the palate. Fruit forward there is a lot here to enjoy.
“We are lucky in Burgundy to have a multitude of appellations and very different terroirs, with many small parcels. We must let this mosaic express itself and seek a certain purity in the wine, a digestibility. A fine Pinot Noir, like a fine Chardonnay, must be delicate enough to make you want to finish the bottle.”
To achieve this result, Sylvain applies a simple recipe: manual harvesting, grapes handled with care, minimum intervention, precise élevage in used French oak barrels and bottling without fining or filtering. Sylvain’s 100% Pinot Noir Bourgogne Rouge is a wonderful example of a ‘humble’ appellation coming to life in the hands of a genius. Beautifully aromatic, offering plum, dark cherry and black raspberry fruit. Finely textured and noticeably fresh. Deftly handled. A delight.
