Novas Carmenère / Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva
Carmenère has got a lot in common with Merlot; so much so in fact that the Chileans struggled to tell them apart for a while! Anyway, now that they know what's what they've done an excellent job of turning it into a top-notch variety with lots of ripe plum fruits to bring to a blend such as this Gran Reserva. It's a seductive wine whose palate positively explodes with supple red fruits. Fair trade - Certified Fair for Life

89 Points - Decanter Magazine, 'For my money, Chilean Carmenere continues to get better and better; this wine is a great example. Lots of character and complexity here in the blend of 85% Carmenere and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is well defined cassis and black fruit with a savoury, umami finish. Soft tannins and a pleasing acidity make for a very appetising wine, especially at this price.' John Stimpfig, Decanter Magazine November 2016 (2014 vintage)
Winery of the Year - Wines of Chile 2015. The most prominent organic and biodynamic estate in Chile, the vineyards of Emiliana Orgánico (formerly VOE) are planted in three of the country’s key viticultural valleys: Maipo, Colchagua and Casablanca. The winemaker here is the remarkably talented Alvaro Espinoza. Acacia trees are grown around the vineyard to draw nitrogen from the atmosphere into the soil, and plants are grown to make homeopathic treatments which are subsequently used on the vines.
