Stylish combination that's every inch a dinner party wine
Carmenère has got a lot in common with Merlot; so much so in fact that the Chileans struggled to tell them apart for a while! Anyway, now that they know what's what they've done an excellent job of turning it into a top-notch variety with lots of ripe plum fruits to bring to a blend such as this. It's a seductive wine whose palate positively explodes with supple red fruits. (IWC Gold 2007 & 2009 Vintage)

The most prominent organic and biodynamic estate in Chile, the vineyards of Emiliana Orgánico (formerly VOE) are planted in three of the country's key viticultural valleys: Maipo, Colchagua and Casablanca. The winemaker here is the remarkably talented Alvaro Espinoza. Acacia trees are grown around the vineyard to draw nitrogen from the atmosphere into the soil, and plants are grown to make homeopathic treatments which are subsequently used on the vines.
