If wines could swagger this would! Cool, sophisticated and swanky
"The outrageously delicious 2001 Costers de Mas Igneus Old Vines is fashioned from the winery's six oldest parcels (planted between 1901-1920).It boasts an opaque purple color as well as a beautiful perfume, a lush, layered texture, and a tremendously persistent finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020. This is an outstanding value." 94 points Robert Parker
Only produced in the best vintages, this is a blend of Garnache (80%) and Carignan (20%). The grapes are from 5 old Coster vineyards planted directly into the steep slopes of the mountains, with 30% gradients. The yields are - unsurprisingly - tiny. Vintage starts at the beginning of October and grapes are selected by hand and transported to the cellar in 20 Kg. cases. The fermentation-maceration lasts for 45 days at a temperature of 26C. After this process the wine goes into new French Allier oak barrels for 12 months where it goes through malolactic fermentation. After bottling wine is stored for 12 months prior to being released for our pleasure! The bottom line is that this is an outrageously good wine which will just blow you away with it's phenomenal concentration and breadth of flavour. Not for the faint-hearted and unquestionably a wine that will blossom when served with a meaty, full-flavoured dish. Feel free to tuck this wine away for a few years; it will only improve.
